{"id":4033,"date":"2013-11-17T21:23:42","date_gmt":"2013-11-18T03:23:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=4033"},"modified":"2013-11-17T21:24:00","modified_gmt":"2013-11-18T03:24:00","slug":"the-dead-sea-scrolls-exhibit-is-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/the-dead-sea-scrolls-exhibit-is-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit is Coming!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Leonardo in Salt Lake City has been selected by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) to display the largest collection of scrolls and artifacts ever to tour outside of Israel.\u00a0 Only 10 cities will have the honor of being selected to host this exhibition &#8211; and Salt Lake City has been selected as the 5th host city beginning November 22, 2013 &#8211; April 27, 2014.<\/p>\n<p><i>Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Ancient Times<\/i>\u00a0displays the scrolls that are considered among the world\u2019s greatest archaeological discoveries.\u00a0 The Scrolls contain the oldest known copies of the Hebrew Bible and provide a window into the lives of the people living in and around Israel in ancient times. Of the more than 500 objects from the Biblical to Byzantine Period, many objects are from recent archaeological excavations in Jerusalem and have never been publicly exhibited. Objects include remains of historical and religious articles, weapons of war, stone carvings, textiles and beautiful mosaics along with everyday household items such as jewelry and ceramics.<\/p>\n<p>I am really excited to go and see this exhibit and to take my mother and father with me to it.\u00a0 My mother is a scholar on ancient Israel and has even published a book on the tribes of Israel called \u201cYe Have Been Hid\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Ye-Have-Been-Hid-Finding\/dp\/1934537756\">http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Ye-Have-Been-Hid-Finding\/dp\/1934537756<\/a> ).\u00a0 So seeing the exhibit with her will be a great experience and education for me.\u00a0 I know it will be fascinating to see.\u00a0 My husband and I took our kids to Israel a few Christmas&#8217;
