{"id":4047,"date":"2013-11-20T23:53:58","date_gmt":"2013-11-21T05:53:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=4047"},"modified":"2013-11-20T23:54:50","modified_gmt":"2013-11-21T05:54:50","slug":"what-an-incredible-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/what-an-incredible-day\/","title":{"rendered":"What an Incredible Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What a day today was!\u00a0 I started my day at 5:00am this morning so I could get downtown for an early morning meeting with President Wheelwright, the President of BYU Hawaii.\u00a0 He and I had a wonderful talk about the Entrepreneurship activities going on at his University in Hawaii.\u00a0 They are doing some really incredible things there with their students.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t realize before today that BYU Hawaii is the most ethnically diverse college in the country.\u00a0 I love that!\u00a0 President Wheelwright asked me to come down to speak to his students, which I am most happy to do \u2013 especially because who doesn\u2019t want to visit Hawaii!?!<\/p>\n<p>Next I headed to the REES Capital office to host a special event at the request of Senator Orrin Hatch, a longtime friend.\u00a0 We invited a group of amazing CEOs and business leaders to our offices today to have a roundtable discussion with Mr. Everett Eissenstat, Chief International Trade Counsel to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and Senator Hatch.\u00a0 We began the event with Mr. Eissenstat providing us an update on the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) negotiations.\u00a0 Then he asked us for input as to what challenges our businesses are facing regarding international trade issues.\u00a0 \u00a0We had an amazing discussion in our meeting.\u00a0 Mr. Eissenstat\u2019s update on the progress and the issues was incredibly educational for all of us, and the discussion points raised by those leaders in attendance were very insightful.\u00a0 I truly appreciated Everett\u2019s candor and frankness in our conversation.\u00a0 Having a solid foundation of rules to live by for countries to conduct free trade with one another is so needed and I am incredibly appreciative of all the efforts being made by so many to try and make that happen.\u00a0 My hope is that more and more countries will make the decision to join in to support making it a reality.\u00a0 Everett was extremely informative and very impressive and the meeting was very successful for all of us involved.\u00a0 I look forward to meeting with he and Senator Hatch again later this week for another round of discussions.\u00a0 Thanks to all who participated today and special thanks to Everett Eissenstat and Senator Hatch for making it happen!\u00a0 Here are a few photos of our event:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/what-an-incredible-day\/event-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4049\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-4049\" alt=\"event-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/event-2-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/event-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/event-2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/what-an-incredible-day\/2013-11-20-14-53-06\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4050\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-4050\" alt=\"2013-11-20 14.53.06\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-20-14.53.06-764x1024.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"857\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-20-14.53.06-764x1024.jpg 764w, https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-20-14.53.06-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-20-14.53.06.jpg 1936w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As soon as our roundtable discussions finished up I had to head immediately downtown to the Leonardo Museum for the private VIP opening dinner and official ribbon cutting for the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. \u00a0Governor Gary Herbert spoke at the event and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu played a video message he recorded for the event since he was unable to come in person.\u00a0 David Siegel, Consul General of Israel spoke, as did Uzi Dahari, the Director of Israel Antiquities Authority. \u00a0Following their talks we went on the tour of the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit.\u00a0 The Scrolls have been called the most significant archaeological find of the last century. And the exhibit includes the most comprehensive collection of ancient artifacts from Israel ever organized.\u00a0 Along with the display of the Scrolls, they had more than 600 objects from the Biblical to Byzantine Period in Israel, including many that have never been publicly exhibited before.
