{"id":4195,"date":"2014-01-12T22:13:42","date_gmt":"2014-01-13T04:13:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=4195"},"modified":"2014-01-12T22:14:02","modified_gmt":"2014-01-13T04:14:02","slug":"the-grass-is-as-green-as-you-make-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/the-grass-is-as-green-as-you-make-it\/","title":{"rendered":"The Grass is as Green as You Make it!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are all familiar with \u201cthe grass is always greener\u201d syndrome.\u00a0 That syndrome that causes people to look around and think that something else would be better than what they currently have.\u00a0 Most commonly you hear of people catching that syndrome in their dating or marriage relationships, although it can extend to other areas of life as well such as career or money or power or position or health etc.<\/p>\n<p>The GIAG syndrome (as I call it) is one to avoid at all costs.\u00a0 It is incredibly demoralizing and destructive and it drags us down to a dark place.\u00a0 It causes us to view everything from the perspective of what we have isn\u2019t enough.\u00a0 Rather than making the most of what we have, you can get easily sucked into feelings of envy and\/or greed, which eventually lead to depression and feelings of never having or amounting to enough yourself.\u00a0 And that is not a place where any of us should want to be.\u00a0 Thankfully we have the ability to avoid it if we want to.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to avoid the GIAG syndrome is simply this &#8211; WATER YOUR OWN GRASS!\u00a0 It\u2019s that easy.\u00a0 Rather than spending time fanaticizing that someone else will understand you better or care for your needs more, spend that time working to improve the relationship you have.\u00a0 No relationship is going to improve if you don\u2019t put serious effort into it.\u00a0 Relationships are hard, no matter how much you may love someone.\u00a0 They take time and sacrifice and attention \u2013 and lots of it.\u00a0 And to allow yourself to believe that some other relationship will be easier and take less effort is a pile of hooey!\u00a0\u00a0 There is no shortcut to having a good relationship.
