{"id":425,"date":"2012-09-05T00:13:56","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T06:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=425"},"modified":"2012-10-26T15:01:07","modified_gmt":"2012-10-26T21:01:07","slug":"procrastination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/procrastination\/","title":{"rendered":"Procrastination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Okay so today\u2019s tweet is really more of a confessional.\u00a0 I came home from a long day at work to find my teenage daughter busy at the kitchen table working on what was clearly a huge homework assignment.\u00a0 She was focused and intense and clearly driven to get the project completed.<\/p>\n<p>I, on the other hand, came home tired from a long day of work at 8pm, knowing that I had to still write my daily blog to my employees as well as needing to prepare a powerpoint presentation for a keynote talk I am giving down at BYU tomorrow morning, and what did I do?\u00a0 I sat down to watch TV for an hour and I talked to a friend on the phone for a while, and then, when I found myself now totally exhausted and ready for sleep, I thought \u201coh dang, I still have to prepare my talk to give at BYU tomorrow\u201d\u2026only by the time I said it to myself it was actually the talk I will be giving TODAY because it is now after midnight and I still haven\u2019t done it!<\/p>\n<p>About 10:30pm my daughter came into my room to say goodnight and before I could scold her for being up so late for an assignment I thought she must have due tomorrow, she expressed, \u201cI am so glad I got that project out of the way\u201d.\u00a0 She went on to say \u201cIt\u2019s not actually due for a few weeks, but I wanted to get it out of the way so I won\u2019t have to sit and stress about it getting done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How the heck was I supposed to lecture my child when she had just shown an amazing amount of ambition and responsibility compared to her mother, who was being captain procrastinator and when I hadn\u2019t even begun my assignment which was due in the morning?!?!<\/p>\n<p>Yes, tonight was humbling\u2026and a valuable lesson to be reminded of.\u00a0 It is true that when there is something we need to get done looming out there it will consistently weigh on us until we get it done.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.&#8221; ~William James<\/p>\n<p>Time is precious.\u00a0 And we can\u2019t ever get it back.\u00a0 So today\u2019s challenge is to take a look at what you have been putting off in your life\u2026.figure out what have you been procrastinating that you really should just get done\u2026THEN DO IT, NOW!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are a million ways to lose a work day, but not even a single way to get one back.&#8221; ~Tom DeMarco and Timothy Lister<\/p>\n<p>DO IT NOW\u2026You will feel so much better when you do\u2026now I am going to stop writing and start doing my powerpoint for tomorrow\u2019s talk (check that&#8230;today&#8217;s talk!)!\u00a0 After all, I have to practice what I just preached right?!??&#8230;and it\u2019s the only way I will get any sleep at all tonight :)\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Have a FABULOUS WEDNESDAY!<\/p>\n<p>~Amy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Okay so today\u2019s tweet is really more of a confessional.\u00a0 I came home from a long day at work to find my teenage daughter busy at the kitchen table working on what was clearly a huge homework assignment.\u00a0 She was focused and intense and clearly driven to get the project completed.
