{"id":4299,"date":"2014-02-06T00:34:47","date_gmt":"2014-02-06T06:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=4299"},"modified":"2014-02-06T00:36:35","modified_gmt":"2014-02-06T06:36:35","slug":"to-my-children-their-children-their-children-and-theirs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/to-my-children-their-children-their-children-and-theirs\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cTo my children, their children, their children, and theirs\u2019\u2026\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That is the inscription on the back cover of my Grandmother\u2019s life history book.\u00a0\u00a0 My grandmother passed away back in November of 2007.\u00a0 She was one of my dearest friends.\u00a0 And I am forever grateful that she left behind her written life history for me and for my children, and their children, and so on.\u00a0 I could share many thoughts on why recording your life history is so important to do in this life, but rather than sharing it in my own words, I think it would be much more powerful to share my Grandmother\u2019s words as written on the back cover of her own life history.\u00a0 It reads as follows:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">\u201cTo my children, their children, their children, and theirs\u2026\u00a0 These pages have been written to tell you something about the years of my life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Four things have been responsible for my recording these things:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">1. A beloved husband who has persisted in gentle prodding and encouragement for me to leave a record for the posterity he and I share.\u00a0 Without this, my story might have remained untold.\u00a0 As always, he led the way, preparing his own life\u2019s history before asking me to do mine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">2. Living at a time when our prophets have emphasized the importance of leaving to our posterity an account of what has been important to us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">3. Having a knowledge, gained through much ancestral research, of how rewarding it is to know something about our family who have preceded us. And,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">4. That desire within each of us, that our posterity know that among their progenitors there was me \u2013 that I also once lived upon earth, experienced the richness of life, knew joy and sorrow, had a sure knowledge (born of the Spirit) of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 That I also loved \u2013 my spouse, my children and grandchildren, my friends, associates, leaders, and all mankind.\u00a0 When those who knew me have left mortality, I will become only a name, unless there is a written record.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>What an incredible woman she was!\u00a0 And what powerful words she shared.\u00a0 <em><strong>\u201cWhen those who knew me have left mortality, I will become only a name, unless there is a written record.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> What a powerful reminder as to why it is so important to write our own life histories.\u00a0 To keep a journal of our important experiences and life lessons;
