{"id":4335,"date":"2014-02-17T14:00:02","date_gmt":"2014-02-17T20:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=4335"},"modified":"2014-02-17T16:03:19","modified_gmt":"2014-02-17T22:03:19","slug":"my-name-is-fill-in-blank-and-i-am-a-workaholic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/my-name-is-fill-in-blank-and-i-am-a-workaholic\/","title":{"rendered":"My name is (fill in blank), and I am a workaholic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Amy and without a doubt, I am a workaholic.\u00a0 There, I said it.\u00a0 I admit it fully.\u00a0 I have a problem and I am taking the first step toward recovery, which they say is to admit it.\u00a0 Step one down, only eleven more steps to go :)\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>I finally discovered I had a problem when I was working the other night at around midnight and I came across an article in Psychology Today that gave a short quiz to help you determine whether you are, in fact, a workaholic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Do you work over 50 hours a week?\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993366;\">\u00a0[Uhhhh\u2026.YES!]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Do you feel a need to constantly stay busy?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #993366;\">[Double YES!]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Do you have difficulty relaxing and having fun?\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #993366;\">\u00a0[Oh, my howdy YES!]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Are you a perfectionist?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993366;\">[To a fault YES]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Are you unable to delegate work to others?\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993366;\">[I have actually gotten way better at this over the years so score one point for me!]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Are you so preoccupied with \u201cto-do\u201d lists that you have trouble being emotionally available to others?\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993366;\"> [Yes, Yes, Yes]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Does your partner, spouse or children complain about how much you work? <span style=\"color: #993366;\">\u00a0[OUCH Yes]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Do you forget conversations or events because you are so preoccupied with planning and work? <span style=\"color: #993366;\">[if it wasn\u2019t for my amazing executive admin I would remember nothing]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you could be a workaholic.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993366;\">\u00a0 [So what does it say if you answered yes to 8 out of 9???\u00a0 That cannot be good!!!!]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So thanks to that article, I now know that I am officially a workaholic with a serious problem that needs to be rectified.\u00a0 How will I rectify it \u2013 I have no idea\u2026.but this week I am determined to try.\u00a0 This week I am going to stay off of email this entire week.\u00a0 I am going to stop sleeping with my cellphone on my pillow so I can hear the incoming email alerts (don\u2019t judge me\u2026I already admitted I have a problem \ud83d\ude42 ).\u00a0 I am going to let my phone go to voice mail this week.\u00a0 I am going to stay off all work items for the entire week.\u00a0 Instead I am going to focus my entire week on spending time with my Valentine this entire week.\u00a0 I am going to have fun with my husband.\u00a0 I am going to relax. I am going to sleep in.\u00a0 I am going to play and laugh and take time to breathe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I am going to break my workaholic disease \u2013 at least for this one week.\u00a0 And maybe, just maybe, at the end of this week of downtime I will realize that it\u2019s okay to play once in a while, and I can become a \u201crecovering workaholic\u201d \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s to hoping!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">&#8220;In all of living, have much fun and laughter.
