{"id":4533,"date":"2014-04-28T22:16:38","date_gmt":"2014-04-29T04:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=4533"},"modified":"2014-04-28T22:16:59","modified_gmt":"2014-04-29T04:16:59","slug":"words-of-wisdom-from-the-young-and-the-old","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/words-of-wisdom-from-the-young-and-the-old\/","title":{"rendered":"Words of Wisdom from the young and the old"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today was straight up exhausting.\u00a0 We moved for 13 straight hours without taking even a five minute break.\u00a0 It was nuts! \u00a0And the sad part is that we barely made a dent in all that needs to be moved still.\u00a0 I have to remind myself every day that the mountains of stuff we still need to move are getting smaller, even if they still look ridiculously bad to me.\u00a0 I am so sore everywhere tonight and I am definitely ready to climb in bed and get some rest.<\/p>\n<p>Today I wanted to pay tribute to my sweet mother who turned 72 years old yesterday. Happy Birthday Mom!\u00a0 And in honor of her I thought I would share some words of advice that come from both ends of the age spectrum.\u00a0 I will start by sharing advice that comes from children and then share some advice from our elders. Both have their merits to share:<\/p>\n<p><b>Advice from Children:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Never trust a dog to watch your food.<\/li>\n<li>When you want something expensive, ask your grandparents.<\/li>\n<li>If you want a kitten, start out by asking for a horse.<\/li>\n<li>Never tell your mom her diet isn\u2019t working.<\/li>\n<li>When your mom is mad at you, don\u2019t let her brush your hair.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t wear polka-dot underwear under white pants.<\/li>\n<li>Never pee on an electric fence.<\/li>\n<li>Never try to baptize a cat.<\/li>\n<li>If you can\u2019t say something nice, then don\u2019t say anything at all<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Advice from our Elders:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t waste time worrying about things you can\u2019t control.<\/li>\n<li>Focus on doing the very best you can be, and becoming the best quality of human being possible and then trust God to take care of the rest.<\/li>\n<li>You can\u2019t fight every battle.\u00a0 Choose which ones are worth fighting and let the others go.<\/li>\n<li>When deciding on a life partner, think about whether this is the person you want to grow old with, not someone who just satisfies you now.<\/li>\n<li>Surround yourself with good people.\u00a0 Goodness is contagious.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t love only from your heart.\u00a0 Love also from your head.<\/li>\n<li>Live your life to the fullest.\u00a0 Tomorrow isn\u2019t promised to anyone.<\/li>\n<li>It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy even the smallest of life\u2019s blessings.\u00a0 You never know when the next one is coming.<\/li>\n<li>The best way to receive is to give.<\/li>\n<li>Happiness is a happy home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Great lessons to be learned from both the young and the old.<\/p>\n<p>I think my favorite advice was to focus on the things you can control and let go of things that you cannot control.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\">\u201cWe either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong.\u00a0 The amount of work is the same.\u201d\u00a0 &#8211; Carlos Castaneda<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So be strong.\u00a0 Focus on what you can control.\u00a0 And for heaven\u2019s sake \u2013 SMILE!<\/p>\n<p>~Amy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today was straight up exhausting.\u00a0 We moved for 13 straight hours without taking even a five minute break.\u00a0 It was nuts!
