{"id":4832,"date":"2014-07-27T19:46:59","date_gmt":"2014-07-28T01:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=4832"},"modified":"2014-07-27T19:47:29","modified_gmt":"2014-07-28T01:47:29","slug":"improving-our-self-esteem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/improving-our-self-esteem\/","title":{"rendered":"Improving Our Self-Esteem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Self-esteem is a topic we read self-help books about and go to workshops to try and improve.\u00a0 Everyone struggles to some extent with questions of their own self-worth.\u00a0 It is a constant struggle for many people.\u00a0 I believe that the key to self-esteem is to stop worrying what other people think about you and start focusing your attention on what you think God thinks of you.\u00a0 God sees the best in us.\u00a0 He knows what we are capable of.\u00a0 He knows our weaknesses and he knows our strengths.\u00a0 He never unfairly judges us.\u00a0 And He always wants to help us be our very best self. So we can trust Him completely.\u00a0 We can\u2019t trust other people to the same extent we can trust God because God doesn\u2019t misjudge or make mistakes in His opinion of us.\u00a0 That is why His opinion should be the only opinion that we let count.\u00a0 Once you can focus on that it becomes much easier to start to take control of your own self-esteem.\u00a0 Just act in a way that you feel you would make Him proud of you and your self-esteem will go up.\u00a0 Significantly.\u00a0 Then trust Him to take the value that exists within you and with your help, he will make you amazing.\u00a0 You just have to show up and do your best\u2026.He will do the rest.<\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite poems in life is called The Touch of the Master\u2019s Hand.\u00a0 I love this poem because it perfectly illustrates how valuable each of us truly is in God\u2019s eyes and with His help:<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Touch of the Master\u2019s Hand<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0<\/i><i>\u2019Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Thought it scarcely worth his while<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>To waste much time on the old violin,<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>But held it up with a smile:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cWhat am I bidden, good folks,\u201d he cried,<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cWho\u2019ll start the bidding for me?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cA dollar, a dollar\u201d; then, \u201cTwo!\u201d \u201cOnly two?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Two dollars, and who\u2019ll make it three?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Three dollars, once; three dollars, twice;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Going for three\u2014\u201d But no,<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>From the room, far back, a gray-haired man<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Came forward and picked up the bow;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Then, wiping the dust from the old violin,<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And tightening the loose strings,<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>He played a melody pure and sweet<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>As a caroling angel sings.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The music ceased, and the auctioneer,<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>With a voice that was quiet and low,<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Said, \u201cWhat am I bid for the old violin?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And he held it up with the bow.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cA thousand dollars, and who\u2019ll make it two?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Two thousand!
