Tom Perry

This last week I was reminded of how blessed I am to have amazing friends in my life. My husband and I were able to spend last week with a group of 15 friends down at Lake Powell. Spending a week at Lake Powell with someone is one of the best ways to form deep friendships with people. You are totally unplugged from the world, with no cell coverage and no email coverage. You spend all day every day with the group doing watersports, playing games, watching movies, etc. You get to sit around and tell stories and hear about each other’s lives. It is just a really rare circumstance where you truly get to know people at a level that doesn’t happen in everyday life. It was a marvelous week and we just loved the group we went with. My only regret is that we couldn’t have invited everyone we know to come on one big trip, but if we did we would never get to know the people as well, so instead we will just have to keep planning more and more trips so we can eventually get everyone down there with us to enjoy the amazing experience that Lake Powell provides.

I believe that the people we associate with as friends in life play a big part in determining the person we will become. Our friends help form our character. That is why it is so important to surround ourselves with people who have the qualities we want to emulate in our lives, and to teach our children to do the same.

“Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends whom we choose.” – Chinese Proverb

I know that I would not be the person I am today if I had not been surrounded by amazing friends who taught me how to be a better person with their example. I have been incredibly blessed to have friends that are incredibly good people. They are kind and sincere and genuine. They put others needs above their own. They are unselfish and positive and uplifting. I truly love my friends! Just tonight a friend of mine, who has been going through a very hard time herself personally, stopped by to drop off a card game that she knew I loved because she heard I had been trying to find it. Here she is dealing with serious health problems in her own family and yet she took time out of her day to drop off a card game for me because she knew it would lift my day. What an amazing friend!!!
