It’s a feeling you wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Most of the time when we hear the word “heartbroken” we instantly assume it is related to the breakup of a dating relationship, because often times that is exactly what it is about. And no doubt the end of a dating relationship with someone who mattered to you can definitely break your heart. In each of our lives we date people until we find that one person we will partner with for life, which means that every other dating relationship will have to come to an end at some point. Every dating relationship will end in heartbreak except for one – the person you marry for life. If you stay mindful of that as you go through dating relationships it will make it easier to anticipate and handle the relationships that come to an end. Just remember that the end of those relationships is clearing the way for that one relationship that doesn’t have to end to come into your life.

Other things that can break your heart in life is facing the loss of a loved one. The idea of not having that person in your daily life causes overwhelming feelings of sadness and loss. Losing someone to death is a fact of life that all of us will face at one point or another. There is no way around that. So the best we can do for this type of loss is to lean on our faith and trust that we will someday be reunited in the next life with those we lost in this life.

I think one of the most painful heartbreaks is when you are betrayed by someone you thought you could trust. Whether it is a family member or loved one, facing a situation where someone you thought you could count on and trust to be there for you then lets you down is devastating. It forces you to relook at everything you once thought was true about that relationship. The saddest part is that what might have been a one-time breach of trust will still cause you to have to question that person for years to come, simply because you now know they are capable of being untrustworthy. So whether they repeat their bad behavior or not you are left with the scars of hurt and betrayal that can take years to heal. That’s why I believe so strongly in the fact that you must have integrity in your relationships with the people you love. It is the very core of what must exist between you in order to have a truly lasting relationship. Whether its the relationship between husband and wife or parent and child, anything short of 100% honesty and loyalty puts up walls between people that will always keep you apart. The other heartbreaks we discussed are going to happen to each of us at some point. This last type is one that doesn’t have to. If all of us commit to being trustworthy and loyal to our families especially we can avoid this type of heartbreak that can be the most heart breaking of all. Even if you have made mistakes in the past, the best thing you can do is to start today and move forward with integrity, love, and loyalty.

And for those who come into your life and prove they can’t be trusted remember this:

“Some people belong in your heart but not in your life. Love them, but love yourself too much to keep letting them hurt you.”

On the other hand, for those in your life who have proven they can be trusted, treasure them. Always. And always try to be that person that your loved ones can believe in and trust – it is the greatest gift you could give them.

Have a blessed day!
~Amy

“That moment when you can actually feel the pain in your chest from seeing or hearing something that breaks your heart.” Those moments are the worst…they just are. Seeing or hearing something that breaks your heart is such a hard thing to go through.
