My kids came home from college late last night for the rest of the week so I am super happy right now. There is nothing better in life then time with your family. Speaking of that, I thought I would share some fun ideas for things you can do with your own families over this holiday weekend to really enjoy your time together:

-Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – if you have kids print out this fun Thanksgiving Day Parade Bingo game for them to play. It will help keep the kids glued to the parade while you are busy cooking! http://printables.familyeducation.com/tv/printables/booklets/ThanksgivingParadeBingo.pdf

-Skype with video to your family that couldn’t be with your for the holiday. Video chatting or FaceTiming your family is a great way to feel closer together.

-Have a Turkey Bowl flag football tournament with family and friends.

-Whip out the board games and card games. My family love, love, loves playing games together. We play Speed Scrabble, Clue, Rook, etc. It is fun to go old school with the non-electronic games.

-If you don’t want to go old school then whip out the Nintendo Wii-U and play their new five person Nintendo Land family games. Their games are so fun for the entire family!

-Write thank you cards to friends and loved ones and go deliver them with a small treat – you can just leave on their doorstep and ring the bell and run to add a little joy to their day.

-Bust out the Karaoke! We bought a karaoke system at our house and downloaded the KaraFun App on my ipad (which is awesome by the way!) and we love spending hours busting out tunes. This would be a great weekend to bust out the Christmas carols on Karaoke.

-Play the relationship game. It is a game that just gives you a bunch of random questions to ask each other over dinner or sitting around after dinner to spark conversation and get to know each other better. You can print it out here: http://lifelearningtoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/The-Relationship-Game.pdf

-Movie marathons! We love watching movies at our house. You can never have too many movies! Pop up the popcorn and grab a turkey on a roll from the leftovers and enjoy the movies! Maybe even bust out the old classics like What About Bob, Christmas Vacation, Mr. Mom, etc.

-And last but this will definitely be last on my list – hit the stores for some crazy, crowded, insanity, shopping. I will not be doing this as nothing about it sounds fun to me, but I realize many people do actually find joy in the chaos of black Friday, so to each his own. If you enjoy it, go for it!

The most important this weekend is to ENJOY IT! Savor every bite of your amazing turkey dinner and sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie! But more than the food, enjoy the time you spend with your loved ones. Try to be in the moment rather than stressing about a million other things. Just kick back, enjoy the moments with your family, and don’t forget to put on those stretchy pants because heaven knows that if you eat like we plan to this weekend you will need them!

As an FYI, I won’t be posting on Wednesday night (for Thursday morning) or Thursday night (for Friday morning) as I always take holiday’s off from writing my blog so I can focus my time on my sweet family. I will post my blog again on Sunday night (for Monday morning) – until then – HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

~Amy

Yes that time has come again – Thanksgiving weekend is upon us! I am SO EXCITED for the holiday time to spend with my family!
