It’s a desire shared universally. It is one thing in life we all have in common – the desire for happiness. Some people wait for happiness to find them, only to learn that this kind of happiness is temporary and it goes as quickly as it comes. Other people have learned that being happy is actually a choice – it is nothing more than a decision to be made. But it’s not just a choice you make once…it’s a choice you have to make every single morning as you wake up and get out of bed – it helps to allow your first thought of the day to be what a privilege it is to be alive today…what a blessing! Then think of a few of your other blessings…there are too many to think of every one of them but we can all think of the top 5 on our minds that morning. From there we make the decision that today we will be happy.

Groucho Marx said, “Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.”

As I stated earlier, I don’t think the decision is one we make just once, I believe we need to make it at the start of each new day. Reason being that some days we get off track and find ourselves down and its important that we allow ourselves the opportunity to start all over again fresh with each new day. That way we never stay down for long for when the new day comes and the sun is up we can decide again to make the choice to be happy.

“Happiness is a choice. The more happiness you choose, the more life presents you with experiences to feel happy about. If you are feeling blue or even downright depressed, you must make the decision to “get happy.”” – Carol Tuttle The following are some he tips she suggests that may help:

Choose to be happy rather than right.

Pay it forward. For every kind deed others do to you do a kind deed for someone else.

Write thank-you notes frequently. The energy of gratitude feeds happiness.

Smile, even if you don’t feel like it, you eventually will.

When you think a complimentary thought about someone—tell them.

Refrain from judgments—think something positive instead.

Turn on your favorite song and sing or whistle along.

Hug someone tight.

Give service to someone more needy than you.

Exercise, pray and meditate regularly.

The sun is out and the weather is warming up and I just think this week feels like a great week to be HAPPY! So with each new day this week let your first thought be how blessed you are and let your second thought be the choice to BE HAPPY TODAY!

~Amy

The desire to be happy.
