Too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we aren’t. Every one of us has had different circumstances surrounding us in our lives, we have different God-given talents and strengths, and different weaknesses. We have different opportunities presented to us and we have different challenges placed before us. Therefore, you will never be able to form a fair and equitable comparison between yourself and anyone else. And I believe God intended it to be that way for that very reason…I believe He didn’t want us to compare ourselves to each other. I believe He intended for us to compare ourselves only to the person we were yesterday and the person we might be able to be tomorrow if we work hard and make good choices.

We cannot allow our confidence to be based on a comparison to anyone else because if we try to we will never be able to have real confidence. I can’t tell you how much I wish I would have understood that lesson when I was still a young girl going through the difficult teenage years of trying to measure up to all the seemingly perfect other girls my age, or when I was a young wife trying to measure up to all the other seemingly perfect wives out there. Every young woman and young man desperately needs to be taught from their earliest years the following: Don’t compare yourself to others because they are not the same as you and they never will be. Instead, measure yourself by looking at who you were yesterday and comparing it to the person you are today – if you are better then you were yesterday BE CONFIDENT!

Realize that you control who you are today, no one else. You control whether you are doing better today than you were yesterday. You and you alone get to decide whether you will improve today over the person you were yesterday which means you are in total control of your own ability to BE CONFIDENT!

Focus only on being the best person you and you alone can be. And trust that God made you YOU for a reason…He doesn’t make mistakes – you are everything you are for a very important reason and the moment you embrace that and do the best you can with who you are and what you have been given is the moment you will find success. You have every ability within you to BE CONFIDENT TODAY!

~Amy Rees Anderson

“Be Confident.
