Someone once told me that the moment you either think or say the words \u201cI can\u2019t\u201d you\u2019ve lost, so never to do it. Hearing that advice had a big impact on my life because I believed it and I tried to never allow myself to think or say it when it came to my business life and I am convinced it made a difference for me. Can\u2019t is a dangerous word because it destroys our courage to try.\u00a0 I love this poem about the word \u201ccan\u2019t\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n
Can’t is the worst word that’s written or spoken
\nDoing more harm here than slander and lies;
\nOn it is many a strong spirit broken,
\nAnd with it many a good purpose dies.
\nIt springs from the lips of the thoughtless each morning
\nAnd robs us of courage we need through the day:
\nIt rings in our ears like a timely-sent warning
\nAnd laughs when we falter and fall by the way.<\/p>\n
Can’t is the father of feeble endeavor,
\nThe parent of terror and half-hearted work;
\nIt weakens the efforts of artisans clever,
\nAnd makes of the toiler an indolent shirk.
\nIt poisons the soul of the man with a vision,
\nIt stifles in infancy many a plan;
\nIt greets honest toiling with open derision
\nAnd mocks at the hopes and the dreams of a man.<\/p>\n
Can’t is a word none should speak without blushing;
\nTo utter it should be a symbol of shame;
\nAmbition and courage it daily is crushing;
\nIt blights a man’s purpose and shortens his aim.
\nDespise it with all of your hatred of error;
\nRefuse it the lodgment it seeks in your brain;
\nArm against it as a creature of terror,
\nAnd all that you dream of you some day shall gain.<\/p>\n
Can’t is the word that is foe to ambition,
\nAn enemy ambushed to shatter your will;
\nIts prey is forever the man with a mission
\nAnd bows but to courage and patience and skill.
\nHate it, with hatred that’s deep and undying,
\nFor once it is welcomed ’twill break any man;
\nWhatever the goal you are seeking, keep trying
\nAnd answer this demon by saying: \u201cI can.\u201d<\/p>\n
