{"id":8928,"date":"2018-02-21T22:13:12","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T04:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=8928"},"modified":"2018-02-21T22:13:27","modified_gmt":"2018-02-22T04:13:27","slug":"what-will-matter-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/what-will-matter-2\/","title":{"rendered":"What Will Matter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Sometimes you read something that says what you are thinking more perfectly than you could say it yourself\u00a0 &#8211; that&#8217;s how I felt when I read this poem by Michael Josephson, whom I had never heard of until someone showed me this poem , but I\u00a0 like the message of his poem so much I&#8217;m going to have to learn more about the person that wrote it because they inspired me today with their words.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-weight: bold;\">What Will Matter (by Michael Joseph)<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><b>R<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">eady or not, some day it will all come to an end.<br \/>\nThere will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.<br \/>\nAll the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten<br \/>\nwill pass to someone else.<br \/>\nYour wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.<br \/>\nIt will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.<br \/>\nYour grudges, resentments, frustrations<br \/>\nand jealousies will finally disappear.<br \/>\nSo too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire.<br \/>\nThe wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.<br \/>\nIt won&#8217;t matter where you came from<br \/>\nor what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.<br \/>\nIt won&#8217;t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.<br \/>\nEven your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><b>S<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">o what will matter?<br \/>\nHow will the value of your days be measured?<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">What will matter is not what you bought<br \/>\nbut what you built, not what you got but what you gave.<br \/>\nWhat will matter is not your success<br \/>\nbut your significance.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><b>W<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">hat will matter is not what you learned<br \/>\nbut what you taught.<br \/>\nWhat will matter is every act of integrity,<br \/>\ncompassion, courage, or sacrifice<br \/>\nthat enriched, empowered or encouraged others<br \/>\nto emulate your example.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><b>W<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">hat will matter is not your competence<br \/>\nbut your character.<br \/>\nWhat will matter is not how many people you knew,<br \/>\nbut how many will feel a lasting loss when you&#8217;re gone.<br \/>\nWhat will matter is not your memories<br \/>\nbut the memories that live in those who loved you.<br \/>\nWhat will matter is how long you will be remembered,<br \/>\nby whom and for what.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><b>L<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">iving a life that matters doesn&#8217;t happen by accident.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s not a matter of circumstance but of choice.<br \/>\nChoose to live a life that matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Perfectly said!
