I am a tech junkie and I get super excited at the thought of getting every new tech toy that comes out, not to mention my love of all things Louis Vuitton and Christian Louboutin… Then there is my husband who is an outdoor adventure junkie so he gets super excited at the thought of getting every new outdoor adventure equipment that hits the market, not to mention his love of tools, trucks, guns and gadgets… So when it comes to getting excited about new “stuff” we have done our share of over-purchasing it, so I speak from experience when I say that the idea of having stuff is often far more exciting than the reality of actually having it is.

All of us get caught up in the excitement of dreaming about “stuff” and imagining what life would be like with it. But what we tend to forget during that excitement phase of wanting to get “stuff” is that once we buy it we’ll have to find a place for it, we’ll have to maintain it, we’ll have to spend time taking care of it. Then there’s the fact that a lot of “stuff” requires continuing costs in order to store it, insure in, maintain it, etc. And then there is time commitment…the ridiculous time commitment that will have to be spent to continuously care for all that “stuff”. The saddest part is that a lot of that “stuff” ends up not being utilized nearly as much as you’d imagined it would. Before you know it all that “stuff” can start to own you…

I saw a quote today that read: “Not that you should own nothing, but that nothing should own you.” Wise counsel.
