Don’t Think Of All You Can’t Do On Lockdown, Think Of All You Can!

When I first heard that everything was getting cancelled and we would all be asked to stay in our homes for several weeks my first thought was about how our entire lives were going to be put on hold. I started stressing about all the things I couldn’t do until the lockdown ended. Then it struck me – I was looking at things all wrong! What I should be doing is thinking of all the things I can do during the lockdown!

I’ve been behind on emails for….well forever really….and this lockdown gives me the chance to actually catch up on those for once. I’ve been wanting to spend time making my next goal poster and this lockdown gives me the chance to actually do that. I’ve been needing to spend more quality time with my family and this lockdown is the perfect opportunity to do so. I’ve got spring cleaning to do, and a home office to organize, and photos to scan. I’ve been wanting for years to take up drawing again, and to re-learn playing the piano and now I can. The list of things I’ve been wanting to do but have never been able to find time for are all on the table and possible to do because of this period of lockdown.

I sat making the list of all the things I’d like to accomplish during this lockdown and suddenly I stopped feeling so trapped by it…instead I started to see what an incredible opportunity this lockdown affords each of us if we let it….

I know the next few months are going to be difficult with all the uncertainty, and the risk of those we love getting sick, and the loss of our freedom to go out to eat with friends, or take trips, or gather together, etc. But no amount of our anxiety or frustration or worry will change the fact that we need to be locked down for a time. But what will change things is if we all use this time we’ve been granted to accomplish great things.

Sit and make a list of all you want to accomplish during lockdown – then focus your attention on getting those things done. Don’t think of all you can’t do – think of all you CAN!!
