With A Great Team The Unimaginable Suddenly Becomes Very Imaginable

In September of 2017 I formed a brand new National Advisory Board for Utah Valley University’s Woodbury School of Business at the request of UVU President Matthew Holland (an amazing man who left UVU last year to serve as a mission president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). I was able to hand select people to serve on the board who were incredibly successful yet who have remained humble, and they are people who have so much to give, not just financially but also in life experience and wisdom they can impart to leadership and to students at the University. They are all people I consider to be AWESOME!  And over these last 18 months this board has grown and been able to already accomplish some miraculous things! They’ve become mentors and speakers to students, they’ve provided opportunities and connections for faculty, they’ve helped the administration to achieve some incredible goals that many thought were unreachable – not the latest of which was helping UVU to get legislative approval for the appropriation of $50 million dollars toward the $75 million dollars needed to build a brand new business school on campus! How exciting is that?!!   YEEE HAWWW! I’m SO EXCITED!

And now this board will help give input on what elements need to be included in the design of this new building so we can help make it a state-of-the art facility that will prepare students for the business jobs of tomorrow. After all, who better to give that input than those whose companies are going to be hiring these students?!

What a blessing for the school to have these leaders as advisors, advocates, and change makers. What a blessing it is for me to get to Chair that board and to be a part of something so extraordinary.  It’s amazing to get to see the impact this group of board members is having at UVU already and the impact they are going to have on the lives of the 40,000 plus students going there. This board is evidence of what can happen when you get a group of amazing people together who all trust each other and who love working alongside each other – this board is the definition of a great team:

“A team is not a group of people who work together. A team is a group of people who trust each other.”  – Simon Sinek

I cannot wait to see what we are able to accomplish at UVU the next few years. And with UVU’s new President, Astrid Tuminez, who is an absolute powerhouse of a leader who is inspiring and authentic and absolutely unafraid when it comes to doing the right things, along with this National Advisory Board, the unimaginable has suddenly becoming very imaginable…

Thank you, Amy, for putting together such an amazing powerful and good board of people to help our students envision and reach their potential. I am grateful to each member of that board for their contribution as we build something unique and relevant at UVU’s Woodbury School of Business.
