What Kind Of Trails Do You Leave

We all walk through life leaving a trail in our wake that has been created by each choice we have made. Every person who follows in our footsteps is impacted by the trail we leave. Whether it’s our children, or a family member, or a business associate, or someone who is watching our example, we are leaving a trail that will influence the lives of others in more ways than we can even imagine. It’s important to look at our lives and ask ourselves, “Am I proud of the trail I am leaving?”

In the role of being a parent or a boss or a leader there is a natural expectation that we should think about that question because it’s common knowledge that there are many eyes watching you, but I would suggest that there are many eyes watching all of us, no matter what our title or role is. We all have people who watch us, whether we are aware of it or not. It could be a neighbor or a friend or the child of a friend or family member or a coworker or an acquaintance…you just never know who is looking at you and desiring to walk in your trail…that’s why everyone’s trail matters and every one of us need to live our lives more aware of the trail we are leaving behind.  We need to stay mindful that every choice we make and every action we take sets an example either for good or for bad…each becomes a part of our legacy for generations to come…

Every person has the power to make others happy.
Some do it simply by entering a room
others by leaving the room.
Some individuals leave trails of gloom;
others, trails of joy.
Some leave trails of hate and bitterness;
others, trails of love and harmony.
Some leave trails of cynicism and pessimism;
others trails of faith and optimism.
Some leave trails of criticism and resignation;
others trails of gratitude and hope.
What kind of trails do you leave?”
                — William Arthur Ward

I hope to live my life leaving a trail of happiness, love, optimism, hope and gratitude. But I realize that in order to do that I have to make it a daily focus, keeping in mind that each choice I make and each action I take is leaving a trial for others to follow.

Make your trail beautiful!
