At least that is what I am telling myself tonight. Today was…well….not the best day. I was over at our new home construction site meeting with plumbers, electricians, framers, etc doing a walk through when I turned right smack into a huge wood beam that was setup to temporarily hold up one of the walls. It wacked me right in the forehead, eye, and cut my nose. I thought I was going to pass out at first, but I was able to regain my balance and my husband got me back home where I could lay down and get ice packs on my forehead to try and help stop the major goose-egg that was quickly growing and turning purple….no such luck…it looks like a mother goose went to town laying a few major eggs on my forehead and nose….ouch!
As I laid here with ice on my head and the room spinning in circles I thought to myself, “what a bad day this turned out to be.”
It’s amazing how we can wake up and have everything going just great and then in a matter of seconds something bad happens and turns our good day upside down. It happens to all of us and sometimes it happens a lot and all in a row, thus the old saying “when it rains it pours”. But all I can do is to remind myself that it was a bad day…but that doesn’t make it a bad life….
My life is blessed in so many ways. Sure, my face is going to be all jacked up as I wait for the goose-eggs to go away and the bruises to fade, and that really sucks! No way around it! But even as bummed out as I am about it tonight, I still can’t deny that I have so much to be grateful for in my life. And I am just going to try and stay focused on that, because when bad days hit that is the only way to get through them…focus on the positive.
And, when possible, try to have a little laugh. My daughter found a bad day card at Hallmark once that she used to bring humor to a bad day her brother was having. It read:
(on the front of the card)
“Hang in there…
Sometimes life hands you lemons, but then you can make lemonade.”
(inside of card)
“Of course, sometimes life pulls down your pants, runs a power sander across your naked butt, then pours lemon juice on your raw abraded buttocks.
In that case, a cool citrus drink wouldn’t really help but, darn it…you’ve got to hang in there anyway!”
Oh how humor can help put everything back into perspective for us! Nothing heals the saddened soul like a good dose of laughter will!
When you find yourself feeling discouraged, find something to make you laugh. A funny quote, a good joke, a silly picture, a good comedy on TV or a funny movie. And then LAUGH!
“When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.” ~Author Unknown
If things seem rough in your life right now or if you have been feeling discouraged….HANG IN THERE! And then find a reason to LAUGH! Oh, and don’t forget to make some lemonade
Here is praying for a better, injury free day tomorrow!
