I cannot even put into words how amazing this weekend was for me. I spent Saturday and Sunday watching the Semi-Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ and it was two days filled with the most inspirational talks imaginable.
In a year where we’ve all been dealing with pandemics, earthquakes, fires, isolation, and a hundred other hardships, the need for uplifting messages has never been greater. So there was no way I was about to miss the opportunity to hear inspired talks on things such as dealing with disappointments, overcoming fear, finding peace during turbulent times, increasing faith, and what we can do to ensure we achieve our divine potential.
Going into the conference I thought I would walk away with an assurance that things in life are going to get better, but instead what I came away with is the realization that things are hard and they might even get harder, and instead of just praying our trials get easier we need to be working to make ourselves better. And as we work at bettering ourselves God will bless us with greater courage, increased personal revelation, sweeter harmony in our homes, and joy – even amid uncertainty.
I so needed that change of perspective. I needed that guidance to stop spinning my wheels in the memories of yesterday… I needed to be reminded that the scriptures say to “be of good cheer” not to be of good fear…and I needed the direction that I should stop looking outward at my circumstances and start looking inward at what I need to do to improve myself and then get to work doing that…
The overall message I took away from the conference was: When “we” is us and God, then come what may, “We’ve Got This!”
