Back In The Saddle With The Saddle Sores To Prove It

Let’s face it, no one really looks forward to getting back in the saddle when they know it is going to be painful to do so. And having been off work for so long I knew exactly how painful it was going to be to get myself back in the saddle by going back to work again this morning. But as John Wayne once said “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.”  So I mustered up my courage and off to work I went this morning, and although I have serious saddle sores, I can report that I did survive it…just barely 🙂

I had a few thoughts put together to help me get through today:

First, remember it’s gonna take a few days to get back in the swing of things so go in with that expectation and don’t completely freak out when you see just how big the backlog has grown.

Second, you can’t move an entire mountain all at once so don’t allow yourself to focus on the entire backlog, rather just look at one item in the backlog at a time and knock that one out, then look at the next item and knock that out, and so on until the workday is over and its time to go home.

Third, keep in mind that the things you didn’t get to today can be gotten to tomorrow. While it’s true that you are behind on them, you are doing everything you can do. And it’s not like they are going anywhere…they will still be there to get to tomorrow.

And finally, when the workday is done be willing to let it be over. Take a deep breath and let all the stress breathe out. Then take time to enjoy your evening and focus on your family. You’ll be glad you did. Then get to bed early and get plenty of sleep so tomorrow you can be ready to GIDDY UP!

Have a great day everyone!
