Positive, Optimistic, and Determined

“I am too positive to be doubtful,

too optimistic to be fearful,

and too determined to be defeated.”

I love that quote because it provides a stark comparison to two ways we can choose to live our lives.  We can either be doubtful, fearful, and defeated….or we can be positive, optimistic, and determined….which sounds better to you?   To me there is just no comparison…I know I would rather be positive, optimistic and determined and I love that the contrasts within that quote helps remind me of that.

I think it starts with our thoughts, and then turns into our attitude. “A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstance’s instead of your circumstances having power over you.” -Joyce Mayer

I also think it is influenced by the people you choose to surround yourself with. “In your day, surround yourself with people who love you, motivate you, encourage you and just make you feel good about being you.”

And without questions our actions of moving forward with determination toward our goals and dreams will help us keep consistent in our optimism. Hard work is a great antidote for anxiety, doubt, and fear. When we can go to bed feeling we worked hard and gave things our best we can rest easy that good things lie ahead.

Last but not least is gratitude. The more we focus on things we are grateful for the happier we will be. I would submit that it is impossible to feel defeated and grateful at the same time, so when you have to pick one, always pick gratitude.

Research from the Mayo Clinic explores the effects of positive thinking and optimism on health and it shows that benefits include:

  • Increased life span
  • Lower rates of depression
  • Lower levels of distress
  • Greater resistance to the common cold
  • Better psychological and physical well-being
  • Reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease
  • Better coping skills during hardships and times of stress

May we all be determined to be more positive and more optimistic so we can live healthier and happier lives. May you all have an amazing, happy day!

~Amy
