The “I’ll be happy when” trap

I’ll be happy when ____ happens. I’ll be happy when I have ______.  I’ll be happy when _____ loves me.  I’ll be happy when I look like _____.

The “I’ll be happy when” trap is one of the easiest to fall into. I know because I have fallen into myself far too many times.  For me it usually starts with “I’ll be happy when I lose 10 pounds.” Sad, but true.

I am finally to the point in my life where I realize that I have most likely already hit my halfway mark of my time here on this earth, or close to it if I live to be 84.  And gosh dang it I just can’t afford to wait for some external thing to make me happy!  I need to be happy now.  Every day.  Heck, the last thing I want to do is be an 84 year old woman waiting to lose that proverbial ten pounds so she can be happy!  That would be straight up ridiculous!  Can you imagine?!?!  Yet that is exactly what will happen if we don’t make a CHOICE to be happy now!  So stop worrying about the “if this”, or “when that” and stop letting those be an excuse to hold your happiness back!  It is time to unleash the happy :)…

It’s time for all of us to stop falling into the “I’ll be happy when” trap and start choosing to be happy RIGHT NOW!

“It is a terrible thing always to be waiting for tomorrow, always depending on tomorrow, always excusing our today’s because we are sure that only in the future will we possess the things that will fulfill us.

Don’t wait for tomorrow. Don’t wait for the right job, the right house, the right salary, the right dress size. Be happy today. Be happy now.”           -Joseph B. Wirthlin

Now gosh darn it – GO BE HAPPY!

I’ll be happy when I retire and it won’t be long. I get to be a full time caregiver until the Lord heals Sherrie, she gets a transplant, or he takes her home.

I have good reason to be happy!

I fall into the “I’ll be happy when…” trap way too many times myself. I really do need to learn to be happy now.
