ADD, OCD, or TBD? Which Disorder Do You Have?

“Our attention span is shot. We’ve all got Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD or OCD or one of these disorders with three letters because we don’t have the time or patience to pronounce the entire disorder. That should be a disorder right there, TBD ‘Too Busy Disorder.’ ” – Ellen DeGeneres

ADD and TBD…those are my two disorders. Medication certainly helps my ADD, at least until my meds wear off around 6pm and then its like a free-for-all of non-stop distractions each night. But I have yet to find anything to help with my TBD disorder…my life has been too darn busy!

It truly has been a crazy year thus far. From multiple hospital stays with my grandbaby, to the release of my new book “What Awesome Looks Like: How To Excel In Business & Life“, to a ton of public speaking engagements, to an insane amount of traveling in and out of the country, to gutting and reconstructing a house for my son and daughter-in-law, to now needing to move them into the house before my next grandbaby is born and needing to help my daughter and her husband get moved into their new apartment as well…I just can’t believe all that has gone on the last four and a half months..its been crazy…

When the whole family comes together to work its good because we have a good blend of some A.D.D. people and some O.C.D. people so we can all balance each other out. Plus the overly-disciplined keep the easily-distracted in line and we tend to get far more done. But as late night set in and people started leaving my son and I found ourselves left to install the lights together. That might not sound like a problem but he and I both have A.D.D. and by nighttime both of our meds had worn off. Hours later and still nowhere near done I wanted to text my family and say “Don’t ever leave two A.D.D people in a room alone to do a project!!!”

Well, we may not have gotten as much done as we’d hoped we would this weekend, but on the positive side, being with my son when both our meds have worn off always proves to be a whole lot of fun.

Whether your A.D.D., O.C.D., or T.B.D. find a way to balance yourself out better. Whether its going to a psychiatrist to see if you need medication, or seeking out counseling , or surrounding yourself with supporters who have different strengths that can balance you out – do what you can to find more balance in your life. And be sure to make time to have a few laughs…that is often the best medication of all 🙂
