Attributes Of Empathy

“Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” – Plato

This video clip below is awesome! It is a perfect illustration of why we ought to have a little more empathy for other people. We shouldn’t assume we know what someone is feeling or what they might be dealing with. We can’t be so quick to judge them. We have to listen and understand how they feel and we must be willing to try and see the world through their eyes and then let them know we understand how they are feeling.  To have deep connections with others we have to practice empathy.

In her research, scholar Theresa Wiseman lists four defining attributes of empathy:

*Able to see the world as others see it

*Nonjudgmental

*Understanding of other people’s feelings

*Able to communicate their  understanding of that other person’s feelings

Practice having more empathy for others today…you’ll be amazed how great it will make you feel.
