Make Pearls from Sand

The Oyster Story

There once was an oyster whose story I tell,
Who found that some sand had got into his shell.
It was only a grain, but it gave him great pain.
For oysters have feelings although they’re so plain.

Now, did he berate the harsh working of fate
Which had brought him to such a deplorable state?
Did he curse at others, or blame them for his election,
Or claim that the sea should have given him protection?

No – as he lay on the shelf he said to himself,
Since I cannot remove it, I shall try to improve it.
Now the years have rolled around, as the years always do,
And he came to his ultimate destiny – stew.

And the small grain of sand that had bothered him so
Had become a beautiful pearl, richly aglow.

Now the tale has a moral; for isn’t it grand
What an oyster can do with a morsel of sand?

What couldn’t we do if we’d only begin
With all of the things that get under our skin.

Often in life we get so called ‘grains of sand’ that get under our skin and if we allow them to they will frustrate us, annoy us, anger us, or even discourage us. Maybe it’s something about a situation that is causing us angst. Maybe it’s something about another person in our life that is rubbing us wrong. Maybe it is something about ourselves we don’t like and it is constantly getting us down…. No matter what the grain of sand is that has gotten under our skin, if we stay aware of our feelings and notice when something is getting to us in a negative way, we can make the choice to look at the situation through a different perspective…we can find a way to turn the grain of sand into something beautiful.

Admittedly, improving some difficult things may take years to accomplish, but the sooner we start working on improving them the faster we will make it happen. The key is to begin…

Remember that no matter how difficult things become we always have a choice on how we view it. We control our attitude and our attitude controls our emotions. Good attitude = HAPPY!

Have an amazing weekend ahead everyone! I LOVE the weekends… And they are even better when they come with SUNSHINE! 🙂
