Happiness is finding out you have a three day weekend ahead!

Since mid-December I have been traveling non-stop. First to Idaho, then to Hawaii, then to Washington DC, then to California, and then to Cabo San Lucas…each trip coming back to Utah for a few days in between and then heading right back out again on the next trip. I feel like I have literally lived out of a suitcase for two months not knowing exactly what time zone I am in, or what day it is, and dealing with jet lag that never gets the chance to go away. So by the time I came back from Cabo this week I felt as tired as I have ever felt…

But my schedule was packed coming home with back to back meetings yesterday and today that started early each morning and go until late in the evening, and all I can do is tell myself that the weekend has to be coming soon so to hang in there. So when I pulled up my calendar to get a look at what I have scheduled the next few days and I saw that this Monday is a National Holiday I honestly wanted to cry with joy…A three day holiday weekend that I didn’t even know was coming! YAY!!

Boy do I need a weekend to try to recover and get my time clock to readjust again from all the traveling. And a weekend to do loads and loads of laundry and unpack suitcases finally! This may be the very first time I have actually been excited to do laundry, but I am! I am so excited at the thought of getting back into a routine again…

..it’s .funny how the things you think you need a break from actually become something you long for when you haven’t had them…but it’s true…when we have routine we want adventure and when we have adventure we long for routine…

I suppose the trick is to be aware that we are like that, and then to be careful to put balance into our lives. If we have too much routine we end up swinging our pendulum too far toward adventure and if we have too much adventure we end up swinging our pendulum too far toward routine. So to keep it balanced we need to make sure we have our regular routines and then sprinkle in little bouts of adventure here and there so we can keep our lives exciting without getting out of whack.  It’s all about keeping balance – ya know?

I am painfully aware that I clearly got out of balance the last two months so I’m hoping this weekend I can start working my way back toward having a little more balance one load of laundry at a time 🙂 .

I hope all of you have a FABULOUS holiday weekend for President’s Day this weekend!

So true, Amy. “balance … too much routine too much adventure … swinging our pendulum too far [one way] There are no words to describe how amazing you are. Your faith, determination, resolve, and stamina are admirable. You are using your gifts, talents, and skills for good and to make the world a better place. I’m going to pray that your long weekend is exactly what you need to get centered and that you do absolutely nothing unless you want to do it because it feeds your soul.
